WWW: Endu Takes Over A&M With a Wife & a Preacher

I’m sure many of you know by now that the new Endu Powerlifting team from MSU just went to compete in
their first meet. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the process of what this looks like, let me fill you in. These guys had been training since September for this one meet. Lots of training, learning, perseverance, struggle, and heart. However, the team of 4 college guys, a wife (me), and a preacher piled into one Tahoe around noon Friday and embarked on the journey to College Station. For me and Drew, this was not our first trip to this particular collegiate meet. However, the other guys had never been and nerves were high. Not to mention, two of the four were close to not being in their weight class anymore.

We arrived later that afternoon, checked in to our hotel, and went to eat dinner and get supplies for the night and the next day. The night was pretty typical except for two guys jumping on a scale every time they ate, drank, or went to the bathroom to make sure they could make weight.

The next morning, meet day, was an early one. Coffee shop (Sweet Eugene's) at 5:30 a.m. and weigh in at 7:00. Unfortunately, one of the guys was still two pounds off and sweated in a sweat suit in the shower for a while, went to the bathroom, and then chewed on gum with xylitol in it to stimulate salivary glands and spit for the next hour in a cup. Luckily, everyone made weight and shortly after everyone enjoyed some bacon insiders from Jack-in-the-box at 8:00 am.

The meet finally began around 9ish and we lifted until after 6. There were numerous groups ranging from A-J. Our guys were in F and G. The judges, unfortunately for squat, were a little inconsistent and very strict in their calls and almost all of our guys missed their openers and even worse two never got a single squat called as good, which disqualified them for a medal.

However, it was the way they acted after this misfortunate morning that made the whole meet amazing. Our guys decided to take on their verse (Philippians 4:13) and put it to action. They proved where their strength really came from and became the bigger person. They put on good attitudes after a little frustration and decided to attack the next two lifts with fun and as much motivation as they could manage. And by God’s grace, all the guys had personal records at the end. Most pulled more than they ever had before and were amazed at the strength God had graciously supplied.

To conclude the day, we made a few new friends, got to talk God with several, came home with two silver metals, and ate huge delicious steaks on the way home before a long night on the road.

God is so good and I’m humbled to be around such respectful, fun, strong, God- fearing men that graciously allow a girl to tag along every now and then. I’m impressed most of all with their hearts, dedication, will, and work ethic. We thank you all for supporting us consistently.
