Insulin Is My Best Fren

Insulin is a hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreas that permits glucose to enter cells and helps the body use glucose for energy. Insulin controls the amount of glucose in the blood.People who are Type 1 diabetic must use manufactured insulin, usually in an injectable form, to replace the natural insulin that is no longer produced by their body.People with Type 2 sometimes need to use insulin when their cells become too resistant to the insulin that they produce naturally and oral medications are no longer working.1
Insulin is an anabolic hormone that our bodies use to build up either muscle or fat. It's how we introduce a response that decides which goes to which. Insulin levels are most sensitive to glucose [that would be a sugar] and this causes a faster spike in insulin gains. If you're body has not just been stressed by exercise you're anabolic potential for muscle is low. By being at a resting state and consuming a high glycemic food [high sugar content] your body will be anabolic [building] for storing body fat.
Therefore the goal is to not obtain sugars unless you just prepared your body for  muscle repairs. 
That's interesting and all but all that means is that we can create a response for storing nutrients.[special note: insulin levels cannot be spiked during exercise, the body wont allow it]

If adequate proteins are taken in along with the insulin spiking sugars, what we get is fast storing protein that goes straight to the muscle[thats the goal]. However if this occurs when the body is not in that fragile catabolic/anabolic threshold then the calories are stored as our bodies favorite storage unit, Triglycerides [Fat].
Examples of Fast Carbohydrates are:
  • sugary drinks
  • white bread, white potatoes, white pasta [something white]
  • usually highly processed foods
  • jellies
  • candy etc.

take away:
  • Avoid sugar unless your post workout, and then take in around 50 gr along with adequate protein.
  • Abusing insulin can lead to diabetes [type 2 and then type 1]
  • Insulin can be our best friend or our worst enemy when it comes to training. You Chose.
