MM VIII: Falling Does Not Equal Failure

The technical term for running always surprises people. Running is simply a controlled fall forward that is sped up, or slowed down by the athlete. When we fall, we’re just trying to run faster than we can control it. That doesn’t make you a failure that makes you ambitious.

Ambition is what started your workout habit in the first place. You had a goal, and then you went and accomplished it. Ambition is what separates you from all of the couch monkeys on facebook handing out their “personal” exercise advice. You don’t have to push your way into a conversation to help, but instead people come to you with questions.

Sometimes, a fall is simply the last step before a great accomplishment. When Christ was nailed to a cross and hung to die, the world assumed he had fallen. Shoot, even all the demons rejoiced in his “failures.” Perhaps you have fallen when it comes to life. You were training hard for a race and you rolled your ankle. Maybe you’re trying a new squat max and you crash the bar. The world will pat you on the back and pity your failure. Don’t pity yourself, stand back up and fix what went wrong. That rolled ankle may force you to perfect your technique. Falling doesn’t mean failure, staying on the ground does. Just as Christ rose again, you need to follow his example and stand back up. Christ has given you the strength to overcome, SO OVERCOME!
